Deletion discussion 2006 edit

  • Interesting discussion. I never saw the original (deleted) article, but this version doesn't seem overly "spammy," nor does it seem to be trying to "sell it as a bonafide university." The article seems quite clear that it's an alternative to traditional university education, and even states that "few universities in India and abroad accept DV as a Technical university." As for notability of the subject, I don't know. They do make the claim that it was the first "open university" in India and that now there are many similar institutions.--Koppas (talk) 15:59, 9 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Foreign credential evaluation edit

"It is important to understand that the U.S. federal government does not recommend or endorse any individual credential evaluation service or group of services, and does not conduct evaluations. The resource links provided here are solely for information purposes and to help in locating potential evaluators. Please do not send documents or credentials to USNEI for evaluation. Neither USNEI nor the U.S. government serve as a channel of appeal for persons dissatisfied with evaluations."[1] Thus the "California University foreign credential evaluation"[2] isn't approved by the US government, although reading its web page you might think that it is. I guess the copyright complain is about File:Dnyaneshwar Vidyapeeth (logo).jpg. However this image is used under our WP:NFCC policy which relies on US fair use law. The general consensus among wikipedians and the broad advice from the wikimedia foundations lawyer is that we can legally show copyrighted logos for organisations, on pages about the organisations, under US law. In some cases we have decided against doing stuff we legally can do, but showing logos on pages about the organisation is one area we have decided to do one of the things that US law allows. Ultimately this means our use of Dnyaneshwar Vidyapeeth's logo on the page about Dnyaneshwar Vidyapeeth is perfectly fine per policy and believed to be defensible under US law. It may be the law in India does not allow this. However for better or worse, both the foundation and the English wikipedia have decided that they will only respect US law when it comes to copyright, and the foundation believes this is something they are able to do legally. If you disagree, you will have to take that up with the foundation's lawyers. So please do not make further complaints here about it, and do not approach other editors either. If the foundations lawyer's advice us we need to make a change or someone in the foundation makes a change, then we will accept that but otherwise there's no copyright issue here. No Proper Avidence edit

There is no name of the university in Bandra list in UGC , Oxford, Oxford hardword and other type of university not required certificate from UGC so please remove all the tag and delete this

Baba9 (talk) 22:43, 14 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

We go by what RS say. But not surprisingly there's a big difference between an institution based in India lacking UGC approval and an institution in the UK. It seems India is considering allowing foreign universities to set-up campuses in India but this does involve the UGC in some fashion [6]. Of course some countries may do similar things while not involving their regulators or using separate regulators. But in such cases it is likely to be mentioned somewhere in the main article covering the campus, at least via a wikilink that the regulatory structure is different than for local institutions. Defunct or not and when? edit

Our article suggested in the infobox it died in 2005 but this source [7] seems to suggest it only stopped offering in 2010 so I changed it to that. But then this source from 2015 [8] seems to suggest it was still offering certificates in 2015. There are lots of spammy website which seem to still think it exists, including offering to help you apply. Possibly they just haven't realised it is dead. Some of them do link to this dead website http://www.dnyan.in/ although that might be no big deal since even it seems they used Gmail anyway. Eventually I did find a working link for the trust (or trusty) which has info on their programs [9]. Their about page [10] lists four instructors Dr. Priya Patel, Founder and CEO (who's photo is interesting); John Smith, Lead Instructor; Samantha Jones, Instructor; David Lee. The website is copyright 2035 (perhaps it's beyond the capabilities of their students but could they not hire someone who could work out how to make their website just show the current year?) however the AI talk (itself looking like it was written by some sort of generative AI) makes me think it was updated recentish. All this combined with all the complaints above, makes me think there still something going on with the institution. Nil Einne (talk) 12:27, 16 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
