The last remaining King Amphoe before being upgraded into Amphoe edit

Which were the 81 minor districts that had been upgraded into districts recently? Johnluisocasio (talk) 21:30, 25 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

If you can read Thai you can find the list in th:กิ่งอำเภอ. But I don't know if these King Amphoe were really the last, or if new districts which will be created in the future will start as King Amphoe again. In that case such a list won't make much sense to list it here, but if you're really interested I can compile that list easily. andy (talk) 20:06, 26 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Proposed move edit

It has been proposed at Talk:Amphoe Ban Fang that Amphoe be changed to District. I propose that the discussion be moved here. --Pawyilee (talk) 13:03, 16 March 2010 (UTC) See alsoReply

Let's just keep the discussion where it is. People monitoring this page can follow the link to the discussion there. --Paul_012 (talk) 14:21, 16 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Total number of districts=928 (878+50), population list at the bottom only goes to 926 edit

Do I misunderstand here something? Stevemiller (talk) 07:47, 23 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

The list was created back in 2006, when there were two fewer districts. It should be fine to update the list numbers, though the figures and rankings might also need updating. --Paul_012 (talk) 16:20, 23 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Requested move 22 January 2022 edit

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: Moved. Using the English form and remaining consistent with other article titles, are found to be the strongest arguments with consensus in this discussion. Coffee // have a ☕️ // beans // 11:06, 9 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

AmphoeDistricts of Thailand – Following up on the 2010 move of amphoe/district articles per Talk:Ban Fang District#Requested move, and looking to speedily move their categories to agree, I come upon the category that they are subcategories of, Category:Amphoe, for which Amphoe is the main article; see discussion at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2022 January 21#Category:Amphoe. I realize the proposed title is not as concise, but it does WP:USEENGLISH, as noted in that discussion. If we agree on a move here we can speedy the category to follow. • Note – the target Districts of Thailand was a redirect to List of districts of Thailand, but all the uses of it would be more appropriately targeted to Amphoe; so I fixed all those uses to go directly to Amphoe, leaving the redirect unused. Then I retargeted it to Amphoe (still unused). So now overwriting it by a move won't change where any links go. Dicklyon (talk) 17:36, 23 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

  • Comment Please note that "district of Thailand" can be either "amphoe" or "khet". If the "amphoe" article is renamed "district", what are we going to do with "khet"? Just asking. --Miwako Sato (talk) 21:21, 23 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
Since there's no article on khet besides that list article, we don't have much to do. I suggest we expand the scope of the present article to include them in brief, and to link to the List of districts of Bangkok article. Dicklyon (talk) 03:58, 24 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose Every country has their own system for administrative divisions, the relevant names might not correspond to district in English. Just use whatever names they use in their official documents. 2001:8003:9008:1301:4431:7685:2901:DA6 (talk) 03:06, 26 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
True, some countries' regions don't correspond to districts in English. But Thailand's amphoe do. Did you look at the linked prior RM discussion? And if we don't move this, how do you suggest we rationalize the collection of related articles and categories? I'm open to alternate proposals. Dicklyon (talk) 04:47, 26 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
Well, someone just commented above stating that there are amphoes and khets in Thailand and both administrative divisions are one level below the provinces. So what are we going to do? Are we going to use "departments" to substitute one of them? Or "sub-provinces"? 2001:8003:9008:1301:4431:7685:2901:DA6 (talk) 08:20, 26 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
Khet and amphoe are equivalent in level, and they're regarded as the same thing for most practical purposes. This article already mentions khet; it would make sense to cover them here as well (as there's currently no coverage). --Paul_012 (talk) 12:51, 26 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Paul 012: can we take that as your Support? Dicklyon (talk) 01:41, 29 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, I'll try to get back to this in a couple of days. --Paul_012 (talk) 18:30, 31 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
    I expect we'll be relisted soon... Dicklyon (talk) 07:07, 2 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Okay, I'll support the proposal (though I could still be convinced either way). As I mentioned at the CfD, "Amphoe" has the benefit of being concise and specific. Neither it nor the preference for English terms outweighs the other IMO, but since the provinces article is at Provinces of Thailand, "Districts of Thailand" would be more consistent with most other articles. --Paul_012 (talk) 09:32, 2 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
    • PS I expect tambon would require a separate nom if renaming is also desired, as the official translation subdistrict appears to be less universally used, and tambon appears as a loanword in terms such as One Tambon One Product. --Paul_012 (talk) 05:56, 8 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Support mostly per nom. WP:USEENGLISH is most relevant here; the only reason it doesn't need to be Amphoe of Thailand is that Amphoe is a (transliterated) Thai-language word. Unlike some European terms (arrondisement or oblast) I don't think anyone uses amphoe in English. User:力 (powera, π, ν) 23:50, 5 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
