All-American? edit

@MisterCake: Who selected Abernathy as an All-American? Was he a first-team selection? If so, a source needs to be added to the article for the article for the his All-American honors. If he was not a first-team, please remove the All-American category, which is limited to first-team selections. Thanks. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 11:40, 29 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

@Dirtlawyer1: According to the 1928 All-America team article linked in the infobox, it was the Central Press Association; further corroboration is provided here and here. Traughber (Vandy's athletic historian atm) is pretty reliable. It can certainly get confusing where one says "school's first All-America selection" when they mean first any-team all america (such as Ty Rauber or O. K. Pressley), or they mean oh my Walter Camp any-team (such as Josh Cody's praise for making All-America multiple years; many articles suffer from similar lack of qualification on the kinds of All-American) and the prevalence we pay to first-team selections, but Vandy in 1928 is a bit late for that concern. Abernathy was over 6 feet 200 pounds when 6 feet 180 would get you nicknamed "Big". Some sources say he was 220! Compare his size to Van Sickel's. Cake (talk) 20:22, 29 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
