There should probably be an additional note on the role of the Congregation since the time of the Second Vatican Council. Although it seems unfortunate to make this type of association with the Council, the plight of Christians in the Middle East since the 1960s has been almost tragic, with a severe persecution in Iraq, steep emigration in Israel-Palestine, discrimination in Egypt, Jordan and Syria, civil war in Lebanon, lack of official status in Turkey, complete absence of freedom in Saudi Arabia, religious apartheid in Iran, etc. ADM (talk) 02:14, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

Exclusive authority over Southern Italy?

The article intro lists areas where the Congregation has "exclusive authority". Most on the list make sense as regions where the Eastern Catholic Churches are predominant over the Latin Rite, but "Southern Italy" is surprisingly included. What is this about? What does the exclusive authority mean in practice? I had thought Italy was pretty much the epicentre of the Latin Rite (though no doubt with a few immigrant communities or others who don't fit into that mainstream). Catholic_Church_in_Italy#Organization appears to back this up. Unfortunately there is no footnote for the list so it's not clear whether this has been inserted in error.
