I don't want to spoil it right away so I'll describe the key scenes here, and move them to the article later maybe.

It's not really about diamonds but about intergenerational reconciliation. An old man is on the outs with his son, who in turn is on the outs with his grandson. They go on the road road movie? to fetch some stolen diamonds offered to grandpa for throwing a fight.

In Reno, they find the diamonds hidden in a wall. In fact, the diamonds are hidden even within the box containing them. Cards with a photo of grandpa's (then) young wife camouflage the existence of a cache of 3 million dollars worth of diamonds. Grandpa had cannily anticipated a fight over the diamonds, so he included some costume jewelry (dolled up to look like they're worth a fortune). When the 3 guys show up to get dig the diamonds out of the wall, the homeowner (also a crook) pulls a gun on them (ostensibly to avoid sharing the "fortune" of the apparently valuable necklace). He allows grandpa to take the cards. Of course, the box with the cards had a hidden compartment, which grandpa ostentatiously opens only after they're all safe home in Canada.

Oh, the "diamonds" also refers to a hand of cards which grandpa spreads open after opening the container. --Uncle Ed 14:37, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

The PG-13 rating is well-deserved because (I'd say R would be more like it) because of the bordello scenes. The schtick about the "hooker with a heart of gold" is also passe, but this is maybe just my own Christian moralism talking. I know this web site is neutral or slightly hostile to Christian morals.
