I tried to help the article by re-arranging the structure and putting in some formatting templates while it was a draft. But it still needs some work on the way to being a good article. I don't have access to Indian sources nor do I speak the language. So this mostly goes to contributors from India. A good point to start from would be finding sources answering the following questions:
How old are the oldest surviving samples in museums, archives or elsewhere?
