DIY edit

Great entry, drew me right in with the picture of the '57 Bel Air. Hamster Sandwich (talk) 21:39, 9 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Thank you. I have done DYKs with car photos before - they do seem to be popular. Edwardx (talk) 22:23, 9 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
Unfortunate that the hook was unsubstantiated by the article, and was written so as to obscure the true situation. Kevin McE (talk) 07:52, 10 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
How so? Edwardx (talk) 10:54, 10 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
The DYK extract was "... that Dennis Albaugh's collection of about 150 classic Chevrolet convertibles includes all Tri-Fives (1957 Bel Air pictured) and models from 1912 to 1975?" The article does not say that there are about 150 Chevrolet convertibles, but that of about 150 cars, they are "mostly convertibles, includes the Tri-Five Chevrolets as well as Chevy models from 1912 to 1975..." So not by any means 150ish Chevy convertibles, no verification that he has all the TriStar models, a false implication that he has all Chevy models from that 63 year period. As so often before, those at DYK and at ERRORS show little interest in preserving credibility on the Main Page. Kevin McE (talk) 16:51, 10 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
Well, I just wasted my last "free" NYT article! I didn't see anything there indicating the exact number of Chevy covertables, only that is "complete collection". I suppose one could research the number of droptop Chevy models produced, but that presupposes Albaugh does not have multiples of ertain models in his collection. If I had a few billion, I probably would. Not Chevy's, but multiples of something. I edited the article to add that Albaugh claimed he worked on his own cars occasionally. I think it's a germane point, especially considering his vast vast vast wealth. Cheers, Hamster Sandwich (talk) 17:07, 10 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
In a roundabout way, the addition of Albaugh's mechanical aptitude relates to the way I called this section "DIY" instead of "DYK". See, I'm not an idiot after all! Hamster Sandwich (talk) 17:12, 10 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
But convertibles is a subsection of the vehicles in the collection, and Chevrolet convertibles a subsection of that, so the claim that the 150 vehicles indicates 150 Chevy convertibles is blatantly untrue, and should have been edited out long before it got to the front page. And the only mention of completeness is in a 1998 comment to his wife as he started the collection, not in an assertion that it has been fulfilled. Kevin McE (talk) 17:30, 10 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
His first car collected was that he found a 1960 Black Corvette, in his own words: "I started with that one." as stated in the video (2:57): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyKk8WrDORc (talk) 11:33, 12 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Is every time a person moves houses notable? edit

Perhaps we should record here every house Mr. Albaugh has ever lived in, its square footage and market price at the time? Or perhaps not? I don't see how this sort of detail is important at all. After all, this is an encyclopedia, not a gossip column.

Am I missing something here?
