Isn't reference to Celtic origins in the first line a major problem?--shtove 23:22, 12 February 2006 (UTC)hi

I think the population data including religious composition needs to be changed here. Remember that the last census was in 2002 and significant change has happened since then. I am going to make certain changes shortly. - Anonymous

I am looking for demographic information like %white %asian etc. I see no mention of that here. I live in dublin, and there is a high chinese population, but there is no mention of that on this page. I would especially like to know the % of irish people in ireland and % of foreign born -- TCD

Shelta spoken by 6,0000 - 25,0000 people? Absolute nonsense...

Facts needed, never mind fact checks

This is an odd article altogether, with its Ireland of "indigenous Celts", Viking minorities (so those are a recognisable ethnic group, and "indigenous" starts around a millennium or so ago?), and hundreds of thousands in the Gaeltachtai. I'd suggest the cod-historical stuff should be dropped entirely, and left to articles that can cover it in more appropriate detail (and accuracy), and some actual demographic statistics be used here rather than essay. Have edited the "Ethnic groups" section to take account of the 2006 Census results released in recent weeks 11:02 GMT, 02 April 2007 (Celt2007)

Population Chart

Is there any way to add a chart tracking the historical population of Ireland? I know it was up over 7 million in the early 19th century, then dropped with famine and emigration, reaching 2.8 million in the 1960s, and has come back above 4 million now. It would be nice see this graphically or at least have some figures to go off of. Papercrab 21:01, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

Inconsistency between ethnic groups and language speakers

The article lists 63,276 Poles in the country, but under Languages appears to say that there are 200,000 Polish speakers. It is unlikely that there are over 136,000 non-Polish speakers of Polish in Ireland.

It is possible that the author meant that there are 200,000 speakers of Eastern European languages, though that's not the way it looks to me. Even then, that is more than the 103,495 listed under Ethnic Groups.

Rename from demographics to demography

Please see Talk:Demography/Archives/2012#Demographics_vs_demography_confusion and comment. Also I suggest renaming this specific article to demography of Ireland - no other article on wiki uses 'republic of' in this context, the country short name is sufficient.-- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk  19:34, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

The "Republic of ..." is necessary in this context to disambiguate Ireland from Ireland from Ireland. --sony-youthpléigh 16:48, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

UPDATE NEEDED

Most of these stats are from the 2002 census. And update from an experienced contributer would be appreciated.Thanks. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 89.101.222.28 (talk) 22:54, 27 April 2007 (UTC).

Polish

Will be the Polish language set the third official language in Ireland? Merewyn (talk) 22:50, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

Польский язык - уже третий язык Ирландии. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.67.86.147 (talk) 23:05, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

The data in the article mentioned only 3.9% immigrants from EU. We know that number of Poles alone exceeds 200 000. Where come from this inconsistency. 178.183.247.106 (talk) 08:59, 15 October 2011 (UTC)

Correction required: It states "Irish Sign Language" as a "spoken" language. That is impossible. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.154.128.111 (talk) 23:51, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
