United Kingdom edit

Deeping st. James is situated in Lincolnshire, United Kingdom. This, and all settlements should be displayed with the country in which it is situated , not the home state. Calling areas within the province of Scotland, the home state of England or the principality of Wales, and trying to portray it as their countries is incorrect. They are situated in the country of the United Kingdom. razza 18:30, 2 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia UK guidelines are to use the constituent country (England), rather than United Kingdom. This was presumably an attempt to stop the endless edit wars over whether Scotland and Wales were countries, and the even more endless edit war over whether Northern Ireland is in the United Kingdom or Ireland. It's a compromise that has largely succeeded, and meant that everyone can get on with writing articles rather than haggling over whose particular nationalism should rule! Incidentally, I think most Scots would be extremely insulted to have their country referred to as a province! Skinsmoke (talk) 16:00, 21 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
I believe the target of your reply is long gone(!). Nonetheless the guidelines are correct as I think that it is standard practice to use geographical terms rather than political ones when describing locations. S a g a C i t y (talk) 16:16, 21 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

This page is tagged for Wikiproject_England. None of the other pages in The Deepings are. Why? Surely WikiProject_UK_geography is enough?--Brunnian (talk) 21:23, 17 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

My guess is that the articles did not exist when the England project did its tagging back in 2007, or the articles were not in the appropriate category at that stage. Tagging is a bit of a chore and new articles need to picked up by projects, best for those editing the article to add the appropriate project templates when they are looking at the articles. Though I must admit that I tend not to put in UK Geo or England on the ones I tag, just the local project. If the England project thinks the article falls under their remit then they are entitled to tag it no harm in having multiple projects looking after an article. In fact it should be a case of the more the better as all projects should be looking out for vandalism in their articles. Keith D (talk) 23:23, 17 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
