Notable Alumni

• I have deleted Keanu Reeve's name, because although he was a student, he is not an alumni, because he did not graduate from De La Salle. --Poonie 07:04, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

• Once again, I do not understand why Keanu Reeves is in the alumni section. He wasn't even a "standout" goalie. Whoever keeps on adding him should actually explain why he is added.

• That is misleading though, because Alumni in the sense that the De La Salle Alumni use signifies "graduate", and I have heard of no one within the group mention "Keanu Reeves" as an Alumni, or has he been mentioned by any of the Signum Fidei newsletters as one. So I assume that in that sense, he is not an alumni. It could be possible to put him in another section entitled, "attended" or something like that, but I feel it's inappropriate to put himin the "alumni" section when it's quite obvious that he has nothing to do with the school. --Poonie 09:55, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

Keanu Reeves is an alumnus. Hypothetically, if a student attended for 4 out of 5 years but did not graduate will you deny his attachment to the school?

Just a thought but Joseph Giordmaine should probably be added to this list. Athletics

• As a former student, I am editing the athletic section, because it seems that the person who wrote it does not have sufficent knowledge of De La Salle athletics, seeing that DEL won multiple championships in the 50's, 60's, 70's, and 80's before it went public. --Poonie 06:52, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Merge??

A request to merge with De La Salle College Oaklands sounds okay, although the Oasklands article looks like a point form entry; the history is important to be kept in the fuller article! Bacl-presby 19:11, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

Merge it. Oakslands entry is part of DEL history. Someone should expand on it with more information.

Rivalries

The detail was removed in this diff by an IP user, but that user did have constructive other edits, and I'm not decided one way or the other on the materials value (re: questionable to me). The items concerning the St. Mike's rivalries were written in childish & immature form and manner and quite frankly, are irrelevant to the institution. Del and St. Mikes have never gotten along but why is that relevant for an encyclopaedic entry? Many local high schools have equally long & bitter rivalries with other local schools but I don't see them written about in Wiki either. That's why I have edited them out. --Murphymc

Because I am a student attending the school, I feel, nay, I KNOW that the St. Mikes rivalry is an important aspect of the school atmosphere. I've been there, I was even AT that Casino Royal showing where Rudda started the school cheer. While I didn't write this rivalries section, I feel that it is relevant to the article, and should be allowed to stay. I am not attempting to "spam" by continuing to repost the section, indeed, I continue to do so because I care about my school. I actually GO to Del, do you? No, don't think so. At best, I'd have to say that you are some washed up alumnus with nothing better to do than to complain about how your old school's precious, precious Wikipedia article isn't exactly the way you want it. Del has made it perfectly clear that they don't even like Wikipedia, why must we argue about it so? There is no reason. Please do not undo the next edit. This matter regarding trivial acts of the SMC rivalry are childish at most and are certainly not encyclopaedic. What about the rampant spray painting of the DEL & SMC campuses in the 80s? Or about the many fights, both on & off the field in the 70s & 60s? Or brawls at school dances in decades past. Why don't you write about those? Because they are ALL trivial & childish.

Did I got to DEL? Longer than you ever did, son. And I'll be contributing to the health of DLS long after you graduate. Just like any good alum who cares about their school should.

Do I care about how the school is portayed in the public eye today? If you want an anwer to that question, I want you to go to Br. Domenic's office tomorrow morning and ask him about someone with the initials "NC" writing on Wikipedia about DEL and if my contributions to the school TODAY are warranted for the better of the institution. Go ahead. I dare you. I'm a 'washed up alumnus'? Try again. And if you're a student who cares about DEL, then you'd treat it like the respectful educational institution that DEL (and SMC) both are instead of a breeding ground for acts of homophobia that you seem to support. This school does not support such acts. As far as I am concerned, DLS has no opinion on Wikipedia. But since DLS has been unwillingly brought to the public eye by this medium, then it must be safeguarded over.

BTW, your facts are wrong. The SMC rivalry had nothing to do with the latin vs. french issue. Any washed up old alum could tell you that. Grow up. --Murphymc

The Private-Public years

One thing that could be mentioned is that after De La Salle's high school became public, there was still a private (boys) prep school. These grades were eventually eliminated (the last grade 8 class being 89-90). This statement has been repeatedly added by User:Billy joe bob1234, and reverted several times.

In keeping with the learned traditions of the College, alumni remain humble even in obvious success. This value is instilled unto students from their first day at the school to their last. Alumni are continually active in the De La Salle community, as well as in their own respective communities around the world.

I'd like to remind this user and others that this is not appropriate for a Wikipedia article for several reasons: it is overly broad and general, it is unverifiable, and even if it were verifiable, the definition and degree of humility is entirely a subjective matter.
