Contradictory contents edit

The intro states the company was set up to build the Gipsy in 1926, but the body states it was set up in 1944 to produce jets. Which is it? Maury Markowitz (talk) 19:09, 23 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Originally it was the "Engine Division" of de Havilland but when DH bought out Frank Halford's design consultancy company in 1944 the Engine Division was re-organised and founded as a separate company becoming the "de Havilland Engine Company" under Halford. At the time Halford was working on the H.1 around-which the Vampire was designed and which later became the Goblin and as gas turbines were new it was felt that Halford would be better off with close contact with all things to do with this engine's manufacture.
