Date of birth (and death) edit

(Thank you for the improvements and tidying, Angr). Kramer's The Last Lullaby gives 1884-1944 [1], while SaveTheMusic.com gives 1887 - February 1945 [2]. Will probably need better sources, once I'm back home. ---Sluzzelin talk 10:37, 2 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Polish spelling of his name edit

The English edition of The Chronicle of the Lodz Ghetto 1941-1944 (ed. Lucjan Dobroszycki, New Haven:Yale University Press, 1984) spells his name with Polish orthography: Dawid Bajgelman. The surname's first vowel indicates a different pronunciation than the current page's Germanic (?) Beigelman. Can this be authoritatively resolved? I don't have access to primary documents at present but am ready to raise the issue here. -- Deborahjay (talk) 11:11, 3 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Actually, it doesn't. German ei is pronounced the same as Polish aj. Still, it would be good to clarify (1) how he spelled his name himself, and (2) how his name is most often spelled in secondary sources - the two may well not be the same! Actually, there may be more than one answer to (1). I can imagine he might have written Dawid Bajgelman when writing in Polish, David Beigelman (or even -mann) when writing in German, and דוד בײַגלמאַן when writing in Yiddish. +Angr 18:01, 3 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
