Tom Dent material

Content that shouldn't be in this article, but Tom Dent (lacrosse) needs an article.

Tom was one of the beloved figures of Dartmouth coaching. He died May 10, 1962. Dartmouth Alumni Magazine archives elaborate on Coach Dent's accomplishments: Born in Stirling,Scotland, he attended Birmingham University, and went on to see WW1 action with British Colonial Troops in France and Mesopotamia, and thereafter arrived to this country to recuperate from a gassing suffered during the War as a member of the Black Watch Regiment. He had played professional soccer with the Aston Villa team, and was originally recruited to teach French at Dartmouth and coach soccer. He became soccer coach in 1924.

Individual honors in 2015

Not relevant enough for article, but maybe a nugget somewhere.

The 2015 Dartmouth lacrosse season was highlighted by notable player achievements. Captain Phil Hession was named a USILA Scholar All-American. The All-Ivy team had two Big Green players named for the first time since 2010: Captain Phil Hession was named 1st team midfielder, and Bobby Osgood was named 2nd team defender. Two Big Green players finished in the top 10 of national D1 lacrosse statistics for 2015: Adam Fishman, attack, finished 3rd in Shooting Percentage (.481), and Philip Hession, midfielder, finished 6th in Groundballs per game (7.77), as well as 9th in Face-off percentage (0.625).

Good. Do you care about the assistant coaches? The main thing to think about with the coaches and achivements is how well the info will age. In 10 years, is an assistant coach hire or a 2nd team All-Ivy going to seem important? Second thing is sourcing. While I don't want to be a stickler and say no to everything, I would like to see independent sources reporting the info. I suppose the college newspaper will do, but preferably something outside the college to show the info is notable outside the college. To your point about "aging information", what is your motivation at this moment in time to FILTER this information? Are you doing this with some specific goal, or perhaps as a Dartmouth Lax alum? As for myself, the information encompasses a very tangible period in Dartmouth lacrosse when my son played which STILL makes the information relevant to the interested reader. It's factual, but perhaps not on a national scale as you've requested. The Ivy League and other lacrosse bodies issue their own press releases end-of-season when announcing awards, which the Dartmouth AD picks up and places on their web site. How much more independent sourcing is necessary?

Let's stick to policy. But no, I have absolutely no connection to Dartmouth lacrosse except I slightly know one '12 grad. Which has nothing to do with my edits. You are the one with a self-admitted motivation. Asking for non-press release sources is a very small thing to ask for. If you were more familiar with Wikipedia practice, you wouldn't argue, you'd just go out and find the sources and then we'd be all good. As for the specifics, I'd say a second team all-ivy is not notable. And your son's bio does not say he finished 3rd in shooting percentage. @Mnnlaxer: Point made....Dartmouth lacrosse is many tiers below its Ivy League competition in terms of historical awards/achievements. So by your standards, that must relegate any "minor award" or statistical achievement to a footnote. No, I do not write biographies, but I do source FACTUAL information from the NCAA web site, Lacrosse statistics. For a group of student-athletes who endured a major transition in coaching staffs, the fact they were able to come away with recognition at SOME level (albeit not to your standards) is a footprint worth keeping for the interested reader. Clearly, a TRUE fan of Dartmouth Lacrosse (i.e. one reaching this page with germane interest, rather than some editorial mission) would find the information useful.

You'll get more with honey than vinegar. Like maybe a thank you for cleaning up the article. I added Hession's awards and improved the refs. I meant all the work before I took out your precious awards, which I tried to work with you to compromise on partially restoring. You're the one constantly complaining and doing no work. As for the Dartmouth lacrosse community: first - start a blog if you want to publish all the information you want; and second - you don't speak for that community in any case.
