Libel suits edit
This is the biggest and only libel suit which prospered in decades: Judge Winlove Dumayas of Regional Trial Court Branch 59, Makati City on June 5, 2008, found Ninez Cacho-Olivarez, publisher of The Daily Tribune, guilty of libel and sentenced her to a minimum of 6 months and a maximum of 2 years imprisonment. She was also ordered to pay P 5 million ($ 113,636) in moral damages and P 33,732.25 in civil damages including libel fine of P4,000, for writing a June 23, 2003 column accusing collusion between then Ombudsman Simeon Marcelo and the law firm of influence peddling in the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 (NAIA3) deal.
