merge with PTGS1 edit
This article is linked to the same NCBI gene id as PTGS1 [1] and 'COX3' is listed as another identifier for PTGS1. It really seems like this is the same thing and should be in one article. It would be useful to mention why there are multiple numbered COX 'genes' in the article.. Benjamin Good (talk) 21:31, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
- The gene is spliced differently resulting in a different enzyme, at least that was the original claim. By now this is a historical episode and if research does not pick up we might reduce it to the historical narration. Right now I would wait and see what develops, if anything. role in headache relief? edit
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prostaglandin says: "A third form of COX, termed COX-3 is thought to exist in the brain and may be associated with relief of Headaches when on NSAID therapy." - This was one thought but isn't true judging from what we know about COX-3 today. I removed the sentence from Prostaglandin. Thanks for catching this mistake! --ἀνυπόδητος (talk) 07:39, 18 October 2011 (UTC)
