During the aftermath of the storm, speedy United Nations assistance was requested.[1] The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints rushed in emergency supplies from Honolulu, Salt Lake City, and New Zealand. Over 50,000 materials were provided to Western Samoa, American Samoa, and Niue.[2] The following year, Cyclone Val affected the same areas as Ofa, resulting in additional devastation.[3]
