Requested Move to Cyclone Evan

While i appreciate that we normally wait for some confirmation that the name wont ever be used again, i really think that the Samoan damage thus far means that we should look at moving this article to Cyclone Evan as it is imo the most notable Evan out there.Jason Rees (talk) 05:41, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

Peak intensites

Strongest TC to hit Fiji

I'm a bit confused as to why this is in here: "At 1800 UTC on December 11 (0700 UTC+13, December 12 [nb 1]), the United States Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) started to issue advisories on the system and designated it as Tropical Cyclone 04P...". The footnote says, "UTC+13 is equivalent to Tonga/Samoa standard time and Fiji/New Zealand Daylight saving time." I'm not understanding what the text in parentheses means. With significant systems like this i feel that it is nice at times to include local time in addition to UTC, especially since we are dealing with the Samoas which are 24 hours apart.Jason Rees (talk) 08:46, 25 December 2012 (UTC)

Then why not just use the local time zone abbreviation? I think that's what we've done on some of the EPAC/Atlantic storms. Inks.LWC (talk) 10:25, 27 December 2012 (UTC)

Unlike in the Atlantic we are not dealing with just one local name for a timezone, so thus I think it is easier just to use the international one (UTC+13) and having the note, rather than picking one of FDST, WST, NZDT or TST to use.Jason Rees (talk) 10:57, 27 December 2012 (UTC)

Dissipated

I would like to remind people that we have to be careful when we are dealing with the dissipation of remnants and stick to what we can prove via text rather than using satellite imagery. As a result, i have selected to use December 25 as the infobox's dissipation date and follow it up with a note in the MH saying that the remnants were last noted by TCWC Wellington on December 25, which will be sourced back to the subtropics marine weather bulletins for Dec 24 18z and Dec 25 06z. If a subsequent date for dissipation emerges in the end of month reports by NIWA, Wellington, FMS or BoM then i will be more than happy to use it.Jason Rees (talk) 08:03, 27 December 2012 (UTC)
