Original research? Personal promotion? edit

I am worried that as is, this article violates the guidelines "Wikipedia is not a publisher of original thought" and "Wikipedia is not a means of personal promotion". As far as I can tell, cycle chic as discussed in this article is a trademark of Mikael Colville-Anderson, and is defined entirely according to a manifesto written by him and published on his blog. I am worried that cycle chic is essentially a forced meme, and that the article as is is merely a vehicle for that forcing. 66.183.35.4 (talk) 01:08, 30 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

I would agree that it is particularly US/UK Centric, in as much the idea that "the bicycle had largely disappeared from the public consciousness as a transport option" is a very anglophone concept, as is the "rediscovery" of utility cycling, which had never disappeared in Japan, China, Indochina nor much of Europe, with the Netherlands being a particular example of active resistance e.g. Stop de Kindermoord (see BBC Why is cycling so popular in the Netherlands? 8 August 2013.
However, the association of fashion and cycling does have roots which are deep, (see for example Women in Cycling Advertising: Part 2 – It’s all about the bike / jersey / shorts …. One could argue that this should be renamed to be more generic, but the meme is now well established.

  • I put in the following links, as I feel they do indeed add to the information value of the article. They show that this is indeed not an isolated thing, more a trend. I think at least one more link should be included, for example the London Cycle Chic one. However they do seem to link to each other, so perhaps it is redundant to list more than two or three. Or perhaps they should be added as part of the text and some general charecteristics of those site be related (?)

Is this article supposed to be only on the contemporary cycle chic perception? edit

I have re-inserted the paragraph, regarding the (a?) perception of term cycle chic in the mid-90s', as it is my belief that this article should have the historic perspective as well, and not just the contemporary one. In kind regards, Heb (talk) 13:00, 22 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Apparently it must be so obvious that "the article is about the modern Cycle Chic thing" that I can't see it and since someone else is an expert on the area (which I'm surely not...), I see no point in editing in or discussing this article further... --Heb (talk) 14:15, 25 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
Since nobody seemed to have any interest in discussing this subject, I have put a historical example of the phrase back in, as I don't think that there is enough material to write to entries on the phrase currently. --Heb (talk) 13:59, 22 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
