Talk:Crotty

I didn't bother putting it on the front page, but - if you're interested - 'Crotaigh/Crotach' is Irish for 'Hunchback'. If you don't fancy the sound of that, then the Irish also use the word 'Crotach' for the Eurasian Curlew :-) ChrisRed (talk) 07:24, 7 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Could somebody stateside add some info as to how the Crottys distributed themselves over there?. I should imagine (given the history of the thing) that quite a few found their way to America (either voluntarily or because of the famine), and I daresay to Australia (in irons?) too. Crotty is still quite an uncommon surname in Ireland, so I should imagine that the majority of people of the name now actually live overseas. ChrisRed (talk) 07:40, 7 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

We'll need to thin-out the 'Notable Crottys' list soon. I know that we haven't exactly had a 'President Crotty' or 'Crotty the First Irishman on the Moon' yet, but the list is starting to work its way downwards in terms of notability. I'm loath to just suddenly and arrogantly do a 'cull' for fear of upsetting people (particularly in the case of Michael D Crotty, as his loved ones may be watching), so I'll wait for a while, and watch for any opinions.ChrisRed (talk) 14:40, 14 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Google only reveals one place on the planet called Crotty, which (surprise, surprise) managed to find itself at the bottom of a lake in Tasmania. Anybody know of any others?ChrisRed (talk) 14:40, 14 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Mary Crotty.......currently lives in Pelham, NY with her husband, seven children, two dogs, and one cat. OK, I've inherited the Crotty sense of humour, so I'll leave it to someone else to manage the 'notable Crottys'. I am not the right person to swing the axe, and in fact I only need to wait for about three more people to join the list before I'm next :-) Please could a male Crotty marry somebody really famous to get the ball rolling?.ChrisRed (talk) 07:47, 28 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
(Please note that I have now abandoned this page and moved on. Somebody else will have to deal with future vandalism / silliness) ChrisRed (talk) 07:16, 27 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
