Merge entry "system on module" into this article

The terms "system-on-module" and "computer-on-module" can be seen as synonyms. The two separate entries could be merged into one main entry (I suggest this article), and "system-on-module" could refer to this entry. --TecCougar (talk) 13:01, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

Merger proposal

I think the article Accelerated System Design using FPGA Based System-On-Modules (SOM) could be merged into this page. This article is well written and appears to be by someone who knows what he is talking about, but the problem is that it doesn't read like an encyclopedia entry. It reads like an article in a trade journal, say EETimes. The subject matter overlaps with this article, and I think there is material there that could improve this article if rewritten in an encyclopedic style. Especially the reasons why a designer would choose an SOM, which might make a good section here. --Margin1522 (talk) 17:51, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

Overlapping articles

There's significant overlap between this article, Small form factor, and Computer form factor. The last one has a nice table and illustrations comparing sizes and features. Perhaps a refactoring of the three articles or even a merge is in order? -- SpareSimian (talk) 05:56, 7 October 2009 (UTC)

I've also thought about this in the last days, and have reworked the article a little. I have added a general reference for the COM issue, which also includes FPGA (MEN Micro, a vendor of COMs, has a general page on COM). I don't know if a reference to a specific product would be ok. (MEN Micro has different COMs, some of which have an FPGA on the COM itself, and some on the carrier board instead. This might be interesting if the issue of "FPGA on COM" would be expanded.)
