Fair use rationale for Image:CBCPEI.jpg edit

Image:CBCPEI.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

The result of the move request was: move 3 pages Anthony Appleyard (talk) 05:23, 25 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

– After an inconclusive discussion in WT:NCTV, this set of page moves needs to be handled as a requested move. I am going to include the details on the titling problems with each of these in the 'Discussion' section below, but suffice it to say that each one of these three is currently either mistitled and/or insufficiently disambiguated, so all of these need to be moved. --IJBall (contribstalk) 16:54, 16 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Feel free to state your position on the renaming proposal by beginning a new line in this section with *'''Support''' or *'''Oppose''', then sign your comment with ~~~~. Since polling is not a substitute for discussion, please explain your reasons, taking into account Wikipedia's policy on article titles.
  • Support even though I'd support also double-disambiguation if that was presented as an option. --Gonnym (talk) 08:17, 17 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
I'll be creating "double-disambiguation" redirects if this passes, as well... But it's not necessary in this case for the articles themselves: 1965 vs. 1986 is sufficient (as per WP:CONCISE). --IJBall (contribstalk) 13:35, 17 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • Support 3rd, but move Canadian programs to Compass (1986 Canadian TV program) and Compass (1965 Canadian TV program) - the proposed move mixes country and year disambiguation that doesn't provide readers and editors the clearest option. The Australian show began in the late 80's, just like one of the Canadian shows, so using year alone for that isn't very clear. This alternative is the better long-term solution because this way we should never need to move these pages in the future. -- Netoholic @ 22:56, 17 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
    • Unnecessary disambiguation (though fine for redirects), as above. In fact, the suggestion actually accomplishes nothing (e.g. for searchers). Anything else can be dealt with using hatnotes. --IJBall (contribstalk) 01:01, 18 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Discussion edit

Any additional comments:
  1. Compass (TV program) is insufficiently disambiguated (WP:INCDAB - i.e. there are multiple TV programs with this title, and we don't do "primary subtopic" disambig. on Wikipedia, and finally the Australian TV show is in no way "special" enough to merit this anyway).
  2. Compass (Canadian TV series) is insufficiently diambiguated (there are two Canadian TV shows with this title, and we don't do "primary sub(sub)topic" disambig. on Wikipedia – again, WP:INCDAB). Also, it's a "TV program", not a "TV series" (i.e. with "continuing story elements") as per WP:NCTV.
  3. Compass (CBC TV series) is both incorrectly disambiguated (we have deprecated disambiguating "by network" as it's too obscure for most readers) and insufficiently diambiguated (not only are there two Canadian TV shows with this title, but they're both "CBC" TV shows!). Also, it's a "TV program", not a "TV series" (i.e. with "continuing story elements") as per WP:NCTV.
So, as I said in WT:NCTV, the current arrangement of these articles is completely unacceptable, as all the articles are insufficiently and incorrectly diambiguated currently. So they need to be moved. --IJBall (contribstalk) 16:56, 16 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
