Fine but first it should be the name correctly translated: Herrietako is not of the Basque Homelands but of the Basque Peoples. I would keep the original Basque name or EHAK (the most commonly known acronym) as page name, not an English translation that would probably be badly done. This comes from a bad custom of Spanish media of translating the name (oficially only in Basque)into Spanish, and doing it badly. --Sugaar 04:16, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
Correct translation edit
... of the Basque Homelands is plainly wrong. And it's surely taken from some Spaniard media that have little idea of Basque and Basque culture.
The particular problem of translation seems to be with the term Herrietako, a declination of herri. Herri means people or village, but only the people aception is significative here. In Basque herria (the people) means also nation, ethnic comunity, country... but never homeland, because the concept of nation (herri) is not refered to the land but to the people, at least in Basque. Hence Euskal Herria: Basque Country, but also Basque People and Basque Nation. Euskal Herria is sometimes used in the plural form Euskal Herriak, emphasizing the plurality of the nation.
So possible translations for Euskal Herrietako Alderdi Komunista (EHAK) are:
- Communist Party of the Basque Peoples
- Communist Party of the Basque Countries
- Communist Party of the Basque Nations
but never of the Basque Homelands, that would Herrialdetako, from Herrialde: region, people's territory, a term where the territorial meaning is more emphasized.
Personally I'd chose Basque Peoples or Basque Countries, as nation can only be one.

- I would favour moving the article to Euskal Herrietako Alderdi Komunista, in line with usage of other Basque political groups (like Aralar, ETA, Zutik, etc., whose names are not translated). --Soman 11:44, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
- My first choice would be EHAK for the page name. In the Basque Country near nobody uses the full name: it's just too long. It reads "eh-ak". --Sugaar 08:06, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
