Columbus Delano

Civil service reform

The article does not explain why Delano did not implement Civil Service Reform when Grant ordered the Civil Service Commision rules to be enforced in 1872 by executive order. Did family ties have anything to do with this since Grant and Delano were distance cousins ? Are there any sources that explain why Delano did not implement Civil Service Reform or why Grant was so lenient to Delano ? Was Grant simply placating Republicans in Congress ? Good article status

Since the Columbus Delano article covers a wide rang of topics, including buffalo slaughter, corruption, and Yellowstone I think this article should be nominated Good Article status and eventually Featured Article status. Cmguy777 (talk) 17:22, 16 July 2016 (UTC)

Yellowstone and viewers to article

I added more information on Delano aftermath

I thought it important to add more information on the Delano aftermath, mainly to show that corruption or scandal in the Department of Interior, did not stop completely after Delano left office. Cmguy777 (talk) 01:05, 4 June 2020 (UTC)

I think more information is needed on the Civil Service Commission. Although created by Grant in 1871, its rules were only enforced by the President. The Civil Service Commission created by Arthur was federal law. I think the President could still appoint Pension Bureau Commissioners. I think it is clear the lower tier workers were hired by taking examinations, rather than appointed, and this helped reduce corruption. More clarity would be helpful. I added what I believed to be neutral information. The massive corruption under Delano was a pathetic tragedy, but some historical perspective that concerned corruption, in the Interior Department, after Delano left office in 1875, is necessary for the article, in my opinion.
