COIN (band)Coin (band)WP:MOS guidelines. Nahnah4 (talk | contribs) 16:49, 16 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Oppose. It's listed in all caps in the article itself, so it appears all-caps is the proper way to write the band name and as such is more accurate. never mind, convincing point below.ThePlatypusofDoom (talk) 00:34, 17 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
@ThePlatypusofDoom: It's clearly stated that the capitalisation is a stylisation, and per WP:MOS guidelines (more specifically, MOS:CONFORM), the article name SHOULD be in proper sentence case. Just to name a few others, artists like Twice is stated as "Twice" on the article page, but they are stylised in caps in almost every other place that mentions the group. Same logic applies for Bad Guy (Billie Eilish song), and Thank U, Next – these songs and albums are stylised in all lowercase but still written in proper stylisation because of the MOS guidelines. That should be how it is. Nahnah4 (talk | contribs) 06:47, 17 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Coin (band)COIN (band) – This page was moved a few years ago from fully capitalising 'COIN' to its current title. The previous move cites MOS:ALLCAPS, which advises to "Avoid writing with all caps (all capital letters) [...] when they have only a stylistic function. Reduce them to title case, sentence case, or normal case, as appropriate." However, I think the key phrase here is "as appropriate".

MOS:TM, which specifically applies to this page, clarifies that articles should "Follow standard English text formatting and capitalization practices, even if the trademark owner considers nonstandard formatting "official", as long as this is a style already in widespread use, rather than inventing a new one" [bolding my own]. Per the last clause, this page should fully capitalise 'COIN', which is in line with basically every other mention of the band (both official and unofficial), including every citation in this article but one (the 'one' being a dead link to iTunes). As such, this page's current title violates MOS:TM by "inventing a new [style]", as spelling the band's name with only the 'C' capitalised is used virtually nowhere except for this article. • Oppose. MOS:ALLCAPS is pretty clear on this: "Reduce names of companies or other trademarks from all caps to sentence case, unless they are acronyms or initialisms, even if the company normally writes them in all caps." 162 etc. (talk) 14:54, 11 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
That's fair. It seems MOS:TM and MOS:ALLCAPS are in contradiction with one another on this, tbh. Loytra (talk) 11:51, 12 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose. Pure stylisation. -- Necrothesp (talk) 15:54, 16 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose. Most of the authorized merch on the band's website uses lowercase or mixed case (click "SHOP"). — BarrelProof (talk) 16:53, 16 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
