Talk:Coilover

When people say something like "I upgraded my Skyline to coil-overs" is this correct termonigly seeing as the skyline uses MacPherson Struts.

See MacPherson strut. // Liftarn

Need more information edit

I am not an expert on the technology but even I notice a few things about coilovers that are missing.

A special tool is typically required to adjust them.

Some require periodic adjustment.

Some people cut the springs down to make a sheap adjustment.

And most of all where are the sources for what is provided?

Some of the organization can be improved. The overall coherence and flow of the article could use improvement. More details and subsections may help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.108.181.26 (talk) 01:15, 21 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Article fails to define the term... edit

As it currently appears, the article makes the point (several times) that coilovers are not to be confused with struts or other arrangements that include a spring and a shock absorber (damper). However, no attempt is made to explain how a coilover is different from these other arrangements.

As I understand it, a MacPherson strut can be replaced with a a coilover (coil-over?) unit, but what exactly does that mean since a 'regular' MacPherson strut is also composed of a coil spring surrounding a shock absorber? It can't just be that the components of a coilover are "matched up" when they are assembled, as this is also true of MacPherson struts. Indeed, even cars that do not employ a MacPherson strut also have coil springs and shock aborsbers and these are also "matched up" by the car's manufacturer.

People speak of doing a "coilover conversion" implying that this will somehow reconfigure the suspension of a car in a way that goes beyond merely changing the springs and shock aborsbers. I had hoped that this article would explain coilovers sufficiently so that this could be more fully understood. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.80.89.156 (talk) 11:20, 21 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

new post edit

I added some advantages and disadvantages I also added the adjustability of a coil over that people were asking for.Aj5723 (talk) 01:49, 25 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
