Lac à l'Eau Claire or Clearwater Lakes edit

This lake system lies in Quebec, which is predominantly French-speaking region. This could justify using the French name. However, this is English Wikipedia, so English names are recommended. Thoughts?--Jyril 18:02, 16 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

It is Wikipedia convention to use the english name on the english wiki, I moved it back to its proper place. --Fxer 05:18, 21 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Clearwater LakesWiyâshâkimî Lake – The lake was offically renamed in february 2016 [1]. The name retake the traditionnal Cree name, who lac à l'Eau Claire and Clearwater Lake come from. Fralambert (talk) 13:30, 9 April 2017 (UTC)--Relisting. Yashovardhan (talk) 12:55, 17 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

  • Oppose as per WP:COMMONNAME (just as we use the English name even though the official name is in French). Once the new name catches on, renaming can be considered again. -- P 1 9 9   12:41, 20 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Possible source for renaming edit

For adding more argument for the renaming, Wiyâshâkimî Lake form is used on the english version of the Tursujuq National Park website [2]. I think is a good idea to change for the native name, like we already done for Haida Gwaii, Like the archipelago, the lake was officially renamed in 2016. --Fralambert (talk) 23:30, 6 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

This 2018 document about the Lacs des Loups Marins Harbour Seals use also Wiyâshâkimî Lake (with the note "formerly called lac à l’Eau Claire"). --Fralambert (talk) 19:51, 1 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
