How Old????? edit

The last chief is said to have joined the British Amry to fight in the American War in 1778 at age 68. He is then said to have died in 1818 at age 103. Obviously he was either 110 when he died or 63 when he joined the army. One of these dates and ages is wrong. BeeTea 18:52, 21 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks BeeTea, I just double-checked the references and you're right, it should be 63 not 68. Reference (A) "The Macquarrie, being necessitated to sell his estates when he had reached sixty-two years of age, nevertheless enrolled himself in the army in 1778, and served most honourably in the American and other wars. He possessed, in true perfection, the hardy constitution of the islesmen, and died in 1817 at the great age of 102". Reference (B) "... was compelled to dispose of his lands for behoof of his creditors, and in 1778, at the age of 63, he entered the army. He served in the American war, and died in 1818, at the age of 103 ..." —Preceding unsigned comment added by Celtus (talkcontribs) 06:29, 22 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Move to Clan Macquarrie edit

I propose the article be moved to Clan Macquarrie (small q) because this is the way the clan is spelt on the Standing Council of Scottish Chiefs website.--Celtus (talk) 07:41, 23 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Better sources for the article edit

The Clan MacQuarrie Society website has a partial transcription of the book Clan MacQuarrie - A History, by R. W. Munro and Alan Macquarrie [1]. The book was written in the 90s. Munro has authored several biographies for the ODNB and a history of the Munros; Macquarrie has taught history at Glasgow University, and has authored several academic publications [2]. From skimming through it, it seems to me that the most of the Kenneth MacAlpin stuff, the Siol Alpin stuff, and the 'one of the oldest clans' statements, should be culled from the article.--Brianann MacAmhlaidh (talk) 09:43, 1 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
