Windows edit

How was this ported to Windows? Does it just use any of the standard Windows doom clients or was a specific Windows version produced? 2fort5r (talk) 17:29, 20 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

I remember correctly, the original Chex Quest CD came with a Windows installer. The installed Chex Quest program launched an intro movie, then the game, and then an ending movie. The game uses a modified Windows build of Doom, with cheat codes, blood color, and other things changed. That said, the Chex Quest 1 .wad file is a full Doom iwad file that can be used with other Doom executables (including some modern source ports).
IIRC, Chex Quest 2 was released as bundle including a readme, a .wad file with the content, and a batch file that launched the CQ1 executable with a parameter for adding CQ2's .wad file to change the levels in the game. As far as I know, the original CQ2 should run on any version of Doom that CQ1 runs on, though it was made for the customized version released with CQ1. I don't know if it requires the CQ1 iwad or if another will work the same.
I also remember there being intro and/or ending movies for CQ2, respectively played before and/or after the game, but I could not find such movies when I did an extensive online search some years ago.
This is just one fan's nostalgic memory. You'll need to find a reliable source if you want to add any of this to the article. MarkGyver (talk) 08:28, 18 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
