Death

It is reported that Cherry Wainer died in Las Vegas on November 16/17 2014. From facebook:

It is my sad duty to announce the passing four days ago at her home in the USA, of one of the most iconic performers, organist Cherry Wainer, who will be forever associated with the glory days of early British rock n roll who could be seen on our black & white television back in the late fifties, In the ground-breaking "Oh Boy" show, often as part of Lord Rockingham XI.

Rumours have circulated on the internet over the last few days, however it is now been confirmed by a personal friend of Cherry who appeared alongside her on the show, that is so fondly remembered by those who are old enough to remember and those who were yet to be born.

Don Storer - date of death

There has been some controversy over the date of Storer's death and of their marriage. I think it's clear from the reference I've provided (albeit not a "reliable" reference) that he died in 2006, aged 77, and the idea that he died in 1977 is presumably a misread.Deb (talk) 11:16, 25 March 2015 (UTC)

The obituaries in The Times and The Daily Telegraph both indicate Don Storer died in 1977. They are surely stronger sources than the citation I have removed. Philip Cross (talk) 10:00, 6 April 2019 (UTC)

I think that Deb is right on this. There is an obituary of Storer here which makes clear that he died in 2006, not 1977. "Don Storer, 77, a musician, of Las Vegas, passed away Monday, Aug. 21, 2006. As a young man in South Africa Don was the premier big band drummer. He became a world travelled musician and featured drummer on the "Oh Boy" TV series in England. In later years he was a limousine driver at the Golden Nugget and Mirage, where Don was much admired for his wonderful sense of humor. His hobby was cooking for his friends and jammin with fellow musicians. Don is survived by his wife, Cherry; and daughter, Diane. He will be greatly missed. So long Satchmo. No services scheduled." I haven't been able to find a definitive answer, but in this book, written in 2005, someone called Roy Sannella refers to both Cherry and her husband Don as being alive in 2005.Deb (talk) 14:26, 6 April 2019 (UTC)

There is a lot more detail about their life in Las Vegas on this site (fifth item down) - perhaps not strictly reliable, but no reason to suppose it's not accurate. Again, confirming 2006 as his death date. Ghmyrtle (talk) 16:14, 6 April 2019 (UTC)
