Dyslexia edit

I've added some info about Schwab having dyslexia. I'm aware of the fact that this might be libellous stuff and I cited a reliable source (a New York Times article). I didn't link to a URL to the article - it's archived at the Times web site and the full text is only available for a fee. It looks like the article is available at Dyslexia Adults, but I'm not sure if they had permission to reproduce it and I didn't want to link to a copyright violation. --Jtalledo (talk) 23:54, 5 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

This is not libelous. Schwab has discussed his dyslexia with the media before, especially in a USA Today article that is currently used as a source. hateless 06:17, 20 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Lobbied against a new electronic system... edit

Lobbied against a new electronic system to centralize stock trading which could have allowed investors to find the best prices; because that is not a fact it is just a belief. To say that could allow investors to find the best prices is a bias comment, because if you track decentralization and privatization, centralization always have brought higher prices, regardless of the product that is been traded; centralization stimulates economic agents to exercise market power. Despite those disadvantages, centralization can reduce prices if and only if price controls are imposed in the market; thus Laizzes Fair does not hold.

Can someone cite any part of this? Not even a mention of a name for this "New Electronic System"?

"Cr" ??? edit

That is merely a gratuitous insult, or graffiti if you will. I'm going to remove the "ster." Let's see how long it takes some wag to add it back. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.0.187.95 (talk) 02:25, 3 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Children's name edit

His oldest child is Carrie Schwab, but this article doesn't name her. He only has five children, so that much is correct. 65.123.43.130 (talk) 16:58, 18 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Junior? edit

The opening and sidebar of this article both show his full name as Charles R. Schwab Jr. How is he a junior? It says his father's name was Lloyd. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.117.198.255 (talk) 19:03, 13 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Requested move 18 September 2018 edit

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: not moved. There's a clear consensus not to move this page to the base name, but there's some support for moving the disambiguation page or company to the base name. I'm going to open a new request to discuss these options. (non-admin closure) Celia Homeford (talk) 12:52, 4 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Charles R. SchwabCharles Schwab – What's the point of having Charles Schwab redirect here rather than to Charles Schwab (disambiguation), if it is to be assumed that the person rather than his eponymous company deserves to be the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC?

Furthermore, the articles about similarly notable business pioneers J. P. Morgan and Walt Disney are about the people rather than their companies. Charles Schwab deserves similar placement for being ranked among the wealthiest people in the world: Schwab is ranked in #148 in the 500-deep Bloomberg Billionaires Index [1] and #54 in the Forbes 400 of 2017 [2].

Regarding WP:COMMONNAME, in more recent years, media have been more receptive to omitting his middle initial.

Furthermore, "Charles R. Schwab" founder has only 15,000 results compared to nearly half a million for "Charles Schwab" founder, indicating that "Charles R. Schwab" is seldom used in that context. • Support for conciseness. bd2412 T 12:44, 18 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose: If there is a primary topic for "Charles Schwab", I strongly suspect it is Charles Schwab Corporation, not the company's founder. The redirect went to the company article from November 2009 to November 2013, when someone changed it without explaining why. Before that, the redirect was a dab page. If it doesn't go the company, it should go to the dab page (or it should be the dab page, like it was before September 2008). I note that the proposer themselves couched their suggestion with a key caveat: "if it is to be assumed that the person rather than his eponymous company deserves to be the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC". I think that should not be assumed. —BarrelProof (talk) 01:02, 20 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
Good points. I hope to create a consensus of what the primary topic of the term "Charles Schwab" is. It is becoming clear that "Charles Schwab" is more closely associated with the company rather than the person, as opposed to J. P. Morgan or Walt Disney. Arbor to SJ (talk) 04:21, 21 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
Moving this article to Charles Schwab (businessman) seems potentially desirable. I suspect we are only using the middle initial for disambiguation purposes here. —BarrelProof (talk) 20:12, 21 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
I would disagree, per WP:NATURALDIS. Plenty of mainstream publications like the previously linked 1985 New York Times profile use his middle initial. Arbor to SJ (talk) 00:36, 22 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
Charles Schwab (businessman) is now an {{R from incomplete disambiguation}}, because Charles M. Schwab, the American steel magnate, was also a businessman. And these (1) (2) (3) (4) (5) edits I recently made demonstrate his claim to long-term significance and further show that there is no primary topic for the name. wbm1058 (talk) 20:30, 28 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose and retarget the redirect to Charles Schwab Corporation (with an improved hatnote there). power~enwiki (π, ν) 23:45, 20 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose and retarget Charles Schwab to be a WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT to Charles Schwab Corporation per the above. --В²C 22:04, 25 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • Comment. Realizing discussion is not really necessary for it, I went ahead and retargeted Charles Schwab to be a WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT to Charles Schwab Corporation per the above. I suggest the next admin or RM closer just closed this discussion. --В²C 22:08, 25 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose. When you see de facto edit wars in the page history at the base title, and there disagreement on which is primary in this very RM, that's a clear indication that there is no primary topic. In the ten years since the dab was moved off of the base, for the invalid reason "making the title more accurate", we've accumulated ~62 links to the ambiguous name. These need to be disambiguated, given that the name targeted the corporation from 30 September 2008 ‎– 26 November 2013‎ (5 years, 1 month) and the man from 26 November 2013‎ – 25 September 2018 (4 years, 9 months), we're bound to find many incorrectly targeted links. The middle initial is perfectly fine natural disambiguation. – wbm1058 (talk) 19:49, 26 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
Reply: So would it be a better choice to move Charles Schwab (disambiguation) to the main Charles Schwab namespace, if there's disagreement about what the primary topic of "Charles Schwab" is? Arbor to SJ (talk) 03:58, 27 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
Yes. Move Charles Schwab (disambiguation)Charles Schwab – where it was before 30 September 2008. wbm1058 (talk) 12:36, 27 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
I've disambiguated most of the links now, and there was a good mix of links for both Charles R. and his brokerage firm, as well as about a half-dozen for Charles M. the steel magnate (see above). – wbm1058 (talk) 20:44, 28 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose - the company should either be at the base name or Charles Schwab should redirect there. The company is more of a primary topic than the founder, and JP Morgan and Walt Disney are not comparable to this situation. CookieMonster755 00:24, 3 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
