The main article gives his parentage as Swedish; however, the surname ending -sen suggests a Danish or Norwegian original origin of the family ("son of Henning"), the corresponding Swedish suffix being -[s]son.[1] Mike0whit (talk) 12:09, 28 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Actually, you are correct. His father was John Charles Henningsen, born in Copenhagen; his mother was Louisa Burke, who was a member a prominent Irish family (de Burgh-Farrell). His father served in the British Royal Navy during the Napoleonic Wars despite fighting against his native Denmark. Very few people have linked him to his sister Josephine Amelie Henningsen, who, under vows of a nun, was known as Sister Marie-Gertrude de Henningsen. This family history is detailed in O'Riley's biography, and re-examined again by Margaret Young (The reminiscences of Amelia de Henningsen, Maskew Miller Longman, 1989). maclilus (talk) 7 April 2014 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 132.3.41.80 (talk) 22:00, 7 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
