Ambiguity: (submitted by the other Charles Becker captclbecker@yahoo.com), see the Wikipedia entry for the Naval Ship USNS Rappahannock for reference to the civil service mariner Captain Charles Becker (b. 1951). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.188.77.45 (talk) 04:57, 15 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Dates of birth and death edit

Anonymous editor 71.51.139.232 has repeatedly attempted to change Becker's dates of birth and death without giving references. I have reverted them to those originally given in this article. The date of Becker's death, 30 July 1915, is incontrovertible - see the New York Times, Sun, American, Tribune and any one of literally hundreds of other newspapers for 31 July, all of which report his death in the electric chair. The date of his birth is more difficult to determine, as there seem to be two birth certificates in the same name, giving different dates - but the alternatives are 1870 and 1873, not 1869 as suggested by editor 71.51.139.232. The choice of July 1870 as the correct date is based on the statement made by Becker at the time of his first conviction for murder (1912) and reported in the New York Sun, 25 October 1912, that he was then 42 years old. For a full discussion, see Satan's Circus pp.364-5. If editor 71.51.139.232 wishes to challenge these dates, he should provide full sources to back up his assertions rather than constantly changing dates without supplying any proof that his are correct - particularly as it is unarguably wrong to suggest Becker died on 7 July 1915. I took out a rambling passage about Crane and Roosevelt that had no bearing on Becker —Preceding unsigned comment added by The443 (talkcontribs) 06:49, 3 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
