Extra chapter

I had previously removed a sentence regarding Chapman's intention to write a Chapter for Catcher in the Rye. I have reworded the prior sentence to make it clear that Salinger did not intend to write a 27th capter. Regarding the suggestion that Chapman intended to write a 27th chapter "in Lenon's blood", there are a few problems with this addition. First, its unsourced. Please provide a citation before adding it back in. Second, I'm not sure if its a relevant detail for an article about the movie (unless the movie is focusing on that fact). "missing chapter"

"Chapter 27 is supposedly the missing chapter of J.D. Salinger’s classic novel of disaffected youth, The Catcher in the Rye, which Chapman says “inspired” him to murder Lennon. (Catcher ends on Chapter 26.) Chapman, who saw himself as a modern-day incarnation of Holden Caulfield, the hypocrisy-hating narrator of Catcher, believed that if he murdered Lennon, he’d write Chapter 27 in Lennon’s blood and literally vanish into the pages of the book to become The Catcher in the Rye of his generation."

To my mind, the important thing with regard to this point is to ensure that the article does not suggest that there is anything missing from The Catcher in the Rye: I've already seen discussion in a number of places over the ambiguity of the phrase "missing chapter" in connection with this film, with many people actually believing it relates to a Salinger written chapter 27. The phrase "missing chapter" crops up in many promo pieces for the film.

I agree about that. I removed the phrase "missing chapter" from the article and replaced it with a less vague sentence. I'll have a look at that source you provided. Okay, I had a look a the blog, which is of the author of the book Nowhere man. I'll take him at his word that it was Mark David Chapman's intention to write "Chapter 27" in John Lenon's blood, although I've never heard it anywhere else. I'm still worried about the appropriateness of this for the article on the film. I think as long as the article here doesn't refer to a "missing chapter", that is the thing that matters most. How it is at present seems spot on to me. The only thing that concerns me is all the references to a "missing chapter" in numerous pieces of promotion on the web with regard to the film. I agree with your point about the "Lennon's blood" aspect, though. All the best, ash. Fatso the wombat
