Sir Richard Burton's original translation of A Thousand Nights and a Night uses the term "chapel of ease" in the story of Aladdin and the Lamp, as a humorous referral to his (Aladdin's) outhouse. I do not have access to the book for an exact reference.Tclarkeaz (talk) 14:30, 7 July 2011 (UTC)

- Related, but I wouldn't think the same, particularly since chapels of ease predate the Reformation. The essence of a chapel of ease is to ease the requirement to attend the parish church. Consider a small hamlet with nothing but a medieval track to the next village. It might take a couple of hours each way every Sunday, by having a local chapel the religious obligation can be discharged in a more reasonable timescale – and that's before we consider rain, cold and snow!
