Talk:Chainsaw mill

Article title

This article is currently called Alaskan mill. As far as I can see "Alaskan" is a brand or model (made by Granberg International). However, there are other manufacturers (see for example [1], [2]), and more widely the thing seems to be called a "chainsaw mill" (this title currently redirects to Alaskan mill). Should the name of the article not be chainsaw mill? Richard New Forest (talk) 19:32, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

I agree - I own a similar device which is called a Canadian Mill. It consists of three parts - a rail with a traveller which the chainsaw attaches to. It provides a flat reference surface on the log. The log is then rotated 90 degrees and the chainsaw mounted in the 'mill'. It is slid up the log at a known distance from this flat top to produce a slab.

Interesting. I think we should change the title of the article to Chainsaw mill, and I've done a proposal below.

I can't find which article deals with the Lucas mill, which is described by the manufacturer as a "circular swing-blade saw". It's clearly a Circular saw of some kind, but that article doesn't seem to mention the type, and both Sawmill and Radial arm saw seem to be different from it. (I don't really understand how it can cut wide slabs with only five teeth...) Richard New Forest (talk) 11:14, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

Notability

I removed a template which states that this article may not meet the guidelines for Wikipedia notability. I have an issue with the notability standard in regards to my field of study, carpentry and vernacular architecture, because many of the articles covering these subjects can be questioned as being notable. Obscure information is sometimes the most valuable. Anyway, if anyone objects to the notability of chainsaw mills lets discuss it. Jim Derby (talk) 12:39, 13 March 2014 (UTC)
