Merge this with Nepeta and do away with the ridiculous title.--Daveswagon 15:04, 20 July 2005 (UTC)Reply

This is Meg from your plant bio class. I thought your article was informative and interesting, but I don't think your title fit its theme very well. The title indicates it's all about why cats like catnip, but you included a lot of other useful information about the plant that didn't concern cats at all. Also, I think you need to include more information about why catnip has this effect on cats. What chemical compounds affect cats, and which part of the plant do they originate in? In your first paragraph, you write that catnip is sometimes considered a weed in the United States. You follow this idea with information on how to cultivate, grow and harvest catnip. Perhaps you could re-arrange your article so you can prove to your reader that catnip is more than a weed, and then explain how to grow it. mthilmony 20 July 2005

What is so ridiculous about catnip? Whatsisname 01:22, 23 July 2005 (UTC)Reply

Most of this already seems to have been merged into Nepeta. I suggest putting in a redirect. Whatsisname 01:28, 23 July 2005 (UTC)Reply

Catnip is usually only used for Nepeta cataria. I think the catnip specific part of Nepeta should be merged into Catnip, rather than the other way around, and Nepeta should be a genus-level article as its title suggests. -- WormRunner | Talk 01:39, 23 July 2005 (UTC)Reply
Au contraireidoodly my friend. "Nepeta is a genus of the mint family, Lamiaceae, the members of which are known as catnips or catmints" I.e., "catnip" refers to the genus, not the species. Whatsisname 01:52, 23 July 2005 (UTC)Reply
I very much disagree about this move. WormRunner | Talk 03:50, 23 July 2005 (UTC)Reply
