Actor not actress? edit

Leonporter replaced uses of "actress" in this article with "actor". Is there concensus for this surprising change? What's the motivation? I don't think there's any MOS on Wikipedia that suggests using the masculine term for females. -- Mikeblas (talk) 22:34, 27 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi Mikeblas, I did that so the article would conform to the Wikipedia Manual of Style's gender-neutral language guidelines (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style#Gender-neutral_language). They say to use gender-neutral terms whenever that can be done with clarity and precision. "Actor" is now a gender-neutral term, not masculine. (You can check Webster's or any recent dictionary to verify this.) And using "actor" doesn't reduce clarity or precision. Leonporter (talk) 14:05, 28 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
