Unencyclopaedic content

The following information was added to article. Some of it is already in the article, and some is probably not suitable. I suggest you edit it carefully back in, and not in the introduction as this is intended to be an encyclopaedia. We need to have a high standarda article for this amazing Gaeltacht village.

"It has 5 pubs, 1 night club, 1 church, 4 shops, 1 chinese restaurant/take away, 1 dirty take away, 2 hotels, 1 library, a local news paper (foinse), 1 chemist, 1 hairdresser, 1 hardware shop, a community hall, an old folks home, a center for the mentally unstable, a garda station, a secondary school, a national school, a extention to the nuig college and 1 radio station (radio na Gaeltacht) close by."--File Éireann 16:12, 5 December 2005 (UTC)

Title

If Carraroe is the unofficial angliscised name of the region, should the title not be changed to An Ceathru Rua? Connor oc 19:11, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

No, we use English on the English language Wikipedia. Look at every other article (that hasn't been attacked by an activist, that is) and the WP:IMOS. --89.101.141.253 (talk) 09:06, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

If that is the case, then why is Calcutta listed as Kolkata? No consistency on here whatsoever. And it's irrelevant about who's addressing the issue - don't engage in ad hominem tactics. The official name of the area is An Cheathrú Rua. There is nowhere in Ireland called Carraroe, at least not in An Ghaeltacht. The article should reflect this. Carroroe isn't English. This kind of backwardness confuses tourist - all of the roadsigns say 'An Cheathrú Rua', so should this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MaitiúÓC (talk • contribs) 02:26, 12 May 2012 (UTC)

An Cheathrú Rua is the official place name of the area and is exclusively in use on all roadsigns, the name of the article should reflect the actual name of the place, not an unofficial and rarely used anglicization with no meaning. Gaelmise (talk) 14:04, 19 November 2014 (UTC)

Your rarely used anglization has about 277k hits on Google. The official name 36.6k hits. So the rarely used name is used about 7.5 times more often. We can just adhere to Wikipedia:Naming conventions (use English). The Banner talk 22:50, 20 November 2014 (UTC)

Notable People

There is nothing about notable people, but it was the home of the excellent artist Charles Lamb and his wife, who was learned in Irish culture, including music, I believe. Esedowns (talk) 19:03, 1 September 2022 (UTC)
