Talk:Carl S. Bates

Latest comment: 6 years ago by InternetArchiveBot in topic External links modified

Carl S. Bates was first person in Iowa, USA to fly a heavier-than-air hang glider. He is also notable for his building many gliders and aircraft. His important selling his Bates Aeroworks to Edward Heath was foundationally important for the eventual development of engines for many Heath aircraft. Some special firsts in aircraft design by Bates will be brought out as the article develops. Foundations of ultralight aircraft are within the good works of Carl Bates. The singularly important series of "How-To" articles by Carl Bates makes him very notable. Foundations of the modern hang gliding movement are traced in strong part to the Chanute styple biplane that he spread to the world through his articles giving plans for homebuilders to build the biplane hang glider.
