Are or where

I think its reasonable to say Cardiacs WHERE a a band, rather than ARE. They where effectively on hold from Tim Smiths stroke in 2008 pending Tims full or partial recovery. Sadly now that Tim has left this mortal plane, I cant imagine it being possible for the band to reform, being that for all the bands collective brilliance they where in the end a vehicle for the creativity of a man who is no longer with us. Where, not are

I think its safe to change this from present to past tense. Although for the longest time we had all hoped Tim Smith would pull through , beat his illness and return to the stage, unfortunately our leader of the starry skies has left this mortal realm, and more recently we also lost Tim Quy. Cardiacs where primarily a vehicle for Tim Smiths compositions (although yes, other members occasionally contributed songs particularly Bill Drake, who hasnt been a band since the late 90s or early 2000s) without Tim Smith its *highly* unlikely this band will ever reform in any sense people would recognize. Radiohead

I'm curious about the claim about Cardiacs being a "major influence" on Radiohead. Has anyone got a good source for Radiohead citing them as an influence?

There are three sources currently used in this article to support the claim. The first comes from a passage in a 2013 Quietus piece - "In the past, musicians as diverse as Faith No More, Blur (who Cardiacs supported at Mile End Stadium on 17 June 1995), Radiohead (who supported Cardiacs at the Astoria on June 4 1992), and Napalm Death have all acknowledged their influence.". The latter two sources are from BBC and Sky News articles reports on Tim Smith's death in 2020. None of these sources actually quote any member of Radiohead or provide any clues as to when the band acknowledged "a major influence". In previous revisions before Tim's death, there was a different source used for the assertion, a no-longer-available 2007 article on the Yorkshire Post website ().

I have a suspicion all four sources were parroting the contents of this article itself. The Radiohead influence claim first appeared in this article in 2008; in the article as it was then, Radiohead were one name in an entirely unsourced list of over 40 well-known artists that "have cited Tim Smith and his work with Cardiacs as a major influence". The list also featured names like System of a Down, Korn, The Smashing Pumpkins, Talking Heads, Kaiser Chiefs, Melvins, Tool, Oingo Boingo, Pixies and They Might Be Giants. I may be wrong but I don't think any of those artists have cited Cardiacs as a major influence, and the article had numerous other unsourced assertions at this time. That list was removed at some point but Radiohead's name never left the article, and by 2013, they were in the lead alongside Blur.

Are a band?

Are the band still considered as being together, seeing as they haven't been musically for 15 years and no announcements of intentions to continue have been made in the 3 years since Tim's death. Mewhen123 (talk) 21:59, 3 October 2023 (UTC)
