Cairo City = Cairo Governoate?

Aren't Cairo city and Cairo Governorate coterminous, meaning they are the same entity/share the same borders? If that's the case, that needs to be made note of, and the population in the info box for each page should show the same number. --Criticalthinker (talk) 09:30, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

This is still very unclear. The map included in the article appear to show the governorate entirely divided into qism, but the article makes a distinction between the "city" and "unallocated" areas. Is the entirety of the governate divided into qism and are they together administered as the city or not? Criticalthinker (talk) 05:49, 1 September 2023 (UTC)

Al Qahirah isn't Cairo Governerate

Regarding Egypt, my country, my homeland, its capital is Cairo 'القاهرة', which belongs to Al Qahirah Governerate 'محافظة القاهرة', which belongs to what can be called a 'semi-governerate' Al Qahirah Al Kobra, that's 'القاهرة الكبرى'. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 196.205.147.182 (talk) 22:33, 12 December 2009 (UTC)

The flag and other stuff

Well, first let's get some stuff sorted out; the flag of 'Cairo Governorate' ain't right at all, from what blue hell did you get that flag? second; Egypt is divided as follows: Level 0: State Level, with the borders from 22 degree north (including the Halaib triangle and not the other triangle, Bir Tawil) and up to the Mediterranean sea, and from 24 degree east to the red sea (36 degree), and Jordanian/Israeli Boundaries up to Gaza Strip (Palestine)

Names are phonetically correct, and note that the 2008 Newly formed Governorates of the cities of Helwan and the sixth of October are now cancelled and both cities are back within Cairo and Giza Governorates Respectively.

Level 2: Departments Level (مستوى المراكز و الأقسام-Markazes): Each Governorate is divided into several departments, where a City can contain one or more departments (in case of Both Cairo and Alexandria Governorates, where each Governorate has only one city, Cairo and Alexandria Respectively, both are subdivided into several departments)

Note that for a City, that consists of several districts, each district can be subdivided into one or more departments, but it isn't necessary for departments to be grouped within a district, some departments belong directly to the Governorate.

As of 2006, Egypt had 353 Department.

Level 3: Localities (شياخات) and Villages (قرى): This is the third and the final level, Localities are the subdivisions of a department that's within a district inside a city, Like Cairo Governorate whereas villages are subdivisions of a department of Governorates that are in the countryside, like the Delta and Upper Egypt.

Note that some villages are grouped within a higher subdivision called a 'local unit' (وحدة محلية) within the department, one department can have one or more local unit.

As of 2006, Egypt had 725 Locality and 4641 Village.

Therefore, and officially speaking, the Capital of Egypt which is the city of Cairo is located within the Cairo Governorate.

Now what's Al Qahirah? Al Qahirah is the Arabic word for Cairo: القاهرة

August 23rd 2014 addition

Administrative (governorate) subdivisions (kism) aren't quite right. This was the edit made by a nice editor: Maybe it's changed since he / she added the list or maybe it wasn't quite right then. This site seems to have accurate data on subdivisions of the Cairo (and other) Governorates. https://www.citypopulation.de/php/egypt-admin.php?adm1id=01 . However, the names, if added here should remain the same to avoid confusion. Or the names of the subdivisions should be added within a table showing the native name and the anglicized names to avoid major confusion. Can someone check another source for this? 1957 = 1,726,000 'cause it doesn't look correct. the eloquent peasant (talk) 01:52, 27 November 2018 (UTC)

Found UN Yearbook with a 1957 pop that looks more accurate. Others had what seemed to be a typo 'cause the pop suddenly plummeted. --the eloquent peasant (talk) 23:15, 10 December 2018 (UTC)
