CV alternatives edit

2009-10-08

We (my region - Lithuania, and I think all others also (?)) don't have a decent way to tell to an employer about your abilities, aptitudes, faculties, attitude relatively to work.
Describe your abilities, partially is possible in the punkt "experience" of a work history. (in this sentence, accent goes on word "partially")
Are any agencies existing, which works without CV ?
It is very confusing to write a CV (way of life) to an employer or a recruiter, imagining what they would do with it (read as a fairytale for the night ?).
I am not messing my CV with my job, and backward; those things are two separated.
Me and my works are not one.
And second question is : are there any other docs, except CV and Resume, which could represent some information relative to your work abilities ? (if do exist, then they should be linked in the CV page)

Page history edit

The topics of Resume and Curriculum vitae have moved around a bit. I've compiled the list below to identity the structural changes and who has been involved in them. Feel free to expand it with any omissions. John Vandenberg (chat) 11:54, 6 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

In addition, there have been a number of redirects created which currently point to Résumé: Curriculum Vitæ, Curriculum vita, and Cirriculum vitae. John Vandenberg (chat) 11:54, 6 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

There are two old talk page posts at Talk:Curriculum vitae. I could not find any other discussion points on any of the other redirects. John Vandenberg (chat) 11:57, 6 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

  • CVCurriculum vitae — "CV" is a very common name, however as "curriculum vitae" is more formal compared to résumé, it looks very odd to see articles using "CV" in the prose where "curriculum vitae" was intended. --John Vandenberg (chat) 13:39, 6 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • CV means many other things: see CV (disambiguation).
Here in England "résumé" means a summary, not (only) a curriculum vitae. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 22:12, 6 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • Pages Résumé and CV look like content forks of each other; they look as if they should be text-merged. Or is there a difference in USA usage between a résumé and a CV? Anthony Appleyard (talk) 22:17, 6 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
    • See Talk:Résumé/Archive 1 for the scattered discussion about this, and the "Page history" section above. I'm also unsure whether the split is necessary, so maybe we need to address that first.
In Australia, the terms are used interchangeably in many circles, however there are still two types - one designed for a job application, and the other designed to be complete and distributed without a specific job in mind or when the employer is evaluating candidates holistically (such as tenured positions). I have notified the active people mentioned in the "Page history" section above. John Vandenberg (chat) 01:06, 10 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • CV should absolutely be at Curriculum vitae. I'm surprised I didn't notice this earlier. ÷seresin 06:10, 10 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • Support the move, and with promoting CV (disambiguation) to CV (or redirecting from the latter). I would probably assume 'CV' as curriculum vitae when used, but it is kind of a colloquial abbrevation, like using 'MO' for Modus operandi.Cander0000 (talk) 06:16, 10 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • Strong support for this move. I think CV should then redirect to the new Curriculum vitae page, people in the UK generally assume CV is curriculum vitæ whenever its used. The word résumé holds very little water. ThinkingTwice contribs | talk 21:51, 10 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Organizing edit

Would there be a few categories (Occupational? Linguistics? Military?) that we can divide this list into. Currently it looks like a haphazard mix with no way to narrow down the possibilities. The more general the categories, the fewer sections we would need. — al-Shimoni (talk) 05:33, 31 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Since the actual article does not mention CV, is it a good idea to link it?018 (talk) 02:47, 23 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
