This edit changed "CONTEST has thus far survived to its fifth Prime Minister ..." to "CONTEST has thus far survived to its fourth Prime Minister ...", presumably to remain faithful to its source. However, the source citation is unclear about which edition of the book was used, as the book was originally published in 2010 and reprinted in 2012 and 2014. Given the turn-over of British Prime Ministers, this statement is not only out of date but it is a comparison that could date more quickly than the shelf-life of a lettuce! In any case, the statement and its correction are now wrong because, by my calculation, there have been six prime ministers in office while the policy has been in place, and it is likely a seventh will hold office, too. While sources can say what they like at the time they are published, because they have a known publication date, Wikipedia articles need precise language in these circumstances so that its statements do not age. Beginning the sentence "As of ....," is one solution to out-dating, but why does the reference even need to be related to the number of Prime Ministers? Surely this sort of policy depends on the decisions of the Home Secretary. For that matter, is this sort of comparison even relevant? This sort of policy is current until it is changed or rescinded. Wikipedia should cover what is current about the policy and explain why the policy survives governments and politicians of various stripes, which the second part of this statement seems hint at the reason for its longevity. - Cameron Dewe (talk) 03:13, 24 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
