@Disc Wheel: Nice work. Made copyedits while reading; of course feel free to ask about any. Comments hopefully to be addressed before promotion:

Lede
  • Update the short description from "American basketball venue"?
Got it
  • [N 1] is in a prominent spot but doesn't add much – can this be removed?
Got it
  • "pushed back for undisclosed reasons" – is this WP:OR?
Got it
  • "who led the students in exercises initially" – this precise fact not appearing in text
Rephrased
  • Lede is kind of long and could less immediately get into the timeline (no action needed on this if you disagree)
Gonna keep it if that's all right, I'm partial to the fuller summary
  • Some infobox fields uncited in text, such as "Closed 1939 (converted to office space)" (is Closed the right word?) and "General contractor V.P. Loftis"
Revised and cited in the box
Background and construction
  • "News outlets reported different sites intentionally for the gym's location" and footnote [N 2] – these seem to be WP:OR and incorrect at that; "between Gerrard Hall and South Building" is according to the source the approved location of the Campus Y. See below.
  • Well I'm not sure why I included "intentionally". Removed that.
  • I'm not sure this totally qualifies as OR. Each of these articles were published on Oct. 3, 1903 there was clearly speculation on as to where the. Presently, yes, the Campus Y is in that rough position; however, in the Morning Post article you are referring to, I re-read it a couple of times and don't think any of the three are discussing the Y's location specifically based on the clippings. There's truly no confirmed location being announced by the school from what I have been able to glean off of newspapers.com. I feel this is interesting information to someone who is interested.
  • Hmm, looked back at the sources and I think the Morning Post is just in error; the N&O reporting on the same meeting says "The executive committee approved the location of the Y. M. C. A. building. It will front the opening between Gerrard Hill and the South building, somewhat to the rear of the two." Hameltion (talk | contribs) 18:42, 23 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Ahh, got you. What do you think now? Disc Wheel (T + C) 00:42, 24 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Mary Ann Smith donation – is it worth finding out what this was used for? or omit entirely as extraneous? up to you
  • Removed her part.
  • What purpose does ref9 serve?
Rm-ed
  • "Powhatan grey mottled brick" – Powhatan apparently the name of the brick company? maybe a detail to omit
Got it
Thank you for the help here haha, was lost
  • "At this point the location of the building was more defined" – as above, this is WP:OR; all descriptions point to always planning to build on an old athletic field near Smith library?
Revised the phrasing in the sentence. See above comment about these sources.
  • Being that this isn't really an update, suggest another rephrase (or remove). Hameltion (talk | contribs) 18:42, 23 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • "the company supplying the bricks did not have their plant properly set up initially" – this is a strong claim to make based on "The company ... was delayed in May in setting up its plant". Suggest toning down and removing from the lede as undue.
Revised
History
  • The shower saga is funny (no notes)
Absolutely agree, quite funny to imagine.
  • "Bynum Gymnasium had been used for student's gymnastics beforehand" – need clearer transition to basketball
Re-worked it
  • "One of the main reasons ... finding a place that had a comfortable temperature to play in" – this doesn't appear to be supported by the source
mis-read it, corrected the sentence
  • "The final intercollegiate basketball game in Bynum" – not supported by source; technically can say only that they played the last game of their season
  • I'll see if I can find an explicit last game result. I thought there was a WP: guideline that allowed for you to make summarizing statements based on sources when they say most of the information. Like the all-time season results from the Kirschner article, I could cite it case it has the fact that Bynum was used for home games from 1911-1923 and the season results game by game, which can show the Virginia game was last. Does that sound familiar at all? Apologies for the vagueness.

After the Tar Heels' departure
  • Rename this section? "Tar Heels" are more than the basketball team.
Got it
  • "new gym was needed" – mention this new gym (Woollen)
Got it
  • "construction would start in December 1938" – can you find when this major renovation was completed? ref5 says 1939
Good catch, added
Miscellany
  • Noticed some close paraphrasing but largely of old (out of copyright) sources
  • Made some quotation mark edits myself, pointing out WP:Logical quotation to explain why
  • Rappoport, Ken (2005) is unused.
Rm-ed
  • Photos all well licensed (though whoever took the fountain picture should have been more level)
Missed the edges too!

Nice work again. Ping me when ready for a second look. Hameltion (talk | contribs) 17:29, 21 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Hameltion: Addressed the comments above. I wish I was in the area, moved out of state. Just an alum who loves their alma mater and has just enough free time! I take it you're in chapel hill? I do appreciate your offer and help with this review as well. Disc Wheel (T + C) 00:42, 24 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
