carriage-trade store

This sentence in the opening paragraph is meaningless to the average reader (and missing a comma): "Historically Burdines was known as the carriage-trade store in Florida". I'm tempted to remove it but I don't know if its trying to convey something useful. Is it trying to say that the chain was previously named "The Carriage-Trade Store" or is it trying to indicate that the chain was a "carriage trade store" (I could find few references to "carriage trade stores" in Google). Burdines catered to a wealthier clientele than Sears or J.C. Penney. The phrase "carriage trade" is fairly commonly used to describe a store catering to the well-off. Horologium t-c 01:48, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

Burdines was not acquired by Macy's

Burdines was merged with Macy's not acquired by it. Much like the other regional department stores owned by Federated Retail Holdings the store was renamed Burdines-Macy's in 2003. Then in 2005 Burdines along with the other stores was consolidated into Macy's because Federated decided to make the store a national brand.

The Florida Store

Do you guys remember Burdines being called "the Florida store", I remember the stores branded as "Burdines Florida" prior to Macy's Winnebaggo (talk) 23:32, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
