Scientific Classification edit

In trying to find the scientific classification for this fungus, I found this site http://plants.usda.gov/java/profile?symbol=BRFR60&format=Print&photoID= which is the info I used, but my book: Turner, Nancy J. Food Plants of Interior First Peoples (Victoria: UBC Press, 1997) ISBN 0-7748-0606-0 says it's in the family alectoriaceae. Could really use an expert here.

The author says it's an archaic grouping, so perhaps it has been modified lately... Khono (talk) 20:18, 18 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Recent studies using ribosomal DNA have suggested that the family Alectoriaceae is an artificial grouping, and that the genera that used to be in this family should all be placed within the family Parmeliaceae. But the Parmeliaceae family is huge, with at least 80 genera, so although lumping everything together in this family may make phylogenetic sense, it isn't necessarily useful.
