2008 Olympics edit

For what it's worth, I have a scan of a press release of the Brunei committee I believe is legit. It claims that:

"The non-attendance of the Brunei Delegation was due to the fact that the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports did not endorse its approval for the athletes to participate (as mentioned in their official letter dated 7th August 2008,...)"

"The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports gave its reasoning as follows: 1. The Ministry felt that the athletes due to have participated in the Women's swimming competition has (sic) not attained the required achievement within the regional and international level; whilst 2. The athlete due to have competed in the athletic event was not fit enough to participate due to an ankle injury the athlete sustained during a National Sports Festival (Pesta Sukan Kebangsaan)"

It supports the view that non-participation was a conscious decision on some level. Unfortunately I don't think it is a citeable resource at this point. Hopefully this will change. MrYIndeed (talk) 16:03, 9 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

For the record, Brunei's representatives at the Beijing Games would have been Maria Grace Koh (a swimmer; Wikipedia has articles about her in German and Norwegian, but not in English) and Mohammed Yazid Yatimi Yusof (athletics).
