According to Milton Keynes Council, the single parish does exist.

The official map at http://www.mkweb.co.uk/parishes/documents/Document8.pdf (confirmed at http://www.mkweb.co.uk/mkmap/home.asp?X_Coord=488821&Y_Coord=239483&bgimage=1&selectedgroups=5&icons=no&Scale=2) shows one boundary. The official council list of districts within parishes also lists just one parish.

I accept that Morwen has found HMG data that says that there are two parishes (Morwen, would you add the info from my talk page), but the de facto position contradicts it. --Concrete Cowboy 12:35, 31 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

They have misunderstood the position of a joint parish council for two parishes, just as you did. It is simply not a single civil parish - it is not shown in the list of parishes here [1] , it is shown as two separate civil parishes at the map on election-maps.co.uk. The LGA 1972 happily provides for "parish groupings" covering two or more separate parishes. Morwen - Talk 19:45, 31 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

So we have a de facto position and a de jure position. Shouldn't WP refelct both? Most importantly, how do we tell where the parish boundary goes? I suspect that it's the A4146 (Childs Way, then Tongwell Street, but I'm guessing.

I have no problem with deleting this, provided that we find a more accurate way to represent it. I expect that they'll be separated before too much longer and the problem will go away! --Concrete Cowboy 23:55, 2 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

There is no de facto position: all the sources you have provided are misunderstanding the actual situation : parish groupings are obscure yes but that doesn't make them not exist. The article as it stands is accurate but not to my mind necessary. Parish groupings are pretty hard to track down as there is to my knowledge to centrally held list of them, either.

As for the border, www.election-maps.co.uk, which I have mentioned before, will show you - but it follows the river from the motorway junction south to the junction of Chaffron Way/Mandeville Drive, where it meets up with the next parish. This parish border is ancient, so wouldn't be expect to follow the grid system. Morwen - Talk 22:13, 3 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
