Interesting question. The name change appears to have been around the time of the 1881 census (see this family history page). The royal name may have a link to Barlynch Priory but I've not been able to find out the specific monarch. It is shown as "King's Brompton" (2 words) on this OS map from 1884-1887 and as Brompton Regis on the OS map of 1900.— Rod talk 21:25, 21 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
