Disambiguation needed edit

Is this the same as the Alt-Duvenstedt or Neu_Duvenstedt? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.43.245.68 (talk) 16:03, 27 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

No, this is the quarter Duvenstedt in the city of Hamburg, somtimes wrongly named Hamburg-Duvenstedt. The other two are towns or settlements in Schleswig-Holstein. Although there is a neighbourhood called Alt-Duvenstedt in this quarter. Sebastian scha. (talk) 19:11, 27 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
Many thanks for the prompt answer. I was looking for the Duvenstedt where my friends are staying and got comletely misled. The more so because there isn't an article for the one I was loking for. Perhaps there could be a disambiguation page? (incidentally I come from a village in England called Duffield ('DufFeld', the field of doves)) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.132.200.217 (talk) 09:59, 28 August 2008 (UTC) Reply
You are very welcome, there's no article because nobody has written one at the moment. And then a disamb would come in handy. I personaly don't know the ethmology of duvenstedt. Sebastian scha. (talk) 13:25, 28 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Districts <=> boroughs edit

IMHO district is more the German Kreis, having its own indenpendent local government. The Bezirk is better translated as borough, the Bezirksamtsleiter is not indenpendent in his decisions. Please don't change this, because there are also incoming wikilinks directed to e.g. Borough as a section headline. Thank you. Sebastian scha. (talk) 23:16, 30 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Don't know if this is out of date, but this question affects a lot of articles. While describing a person's or building's location there are awkward phrasings throughout many articles and I don't blame anybody, since this whole naming seems quite vague. Its quite striking to me, that english/hamburg.de makes no indication as to how they like the Bezirke and Stadtteile to be named. For the upper admin level, there are random mentions as both districts and boroughs, for the lower admin level I couldn't find anything.

For the "Bezirke" I can't tell, but it may be worthwhile to consider other translations than the two: like "Municipal district"? For the "Stadtteile", my feeling is that "quarter" is not right. "Quarter" is the equivalent to Viertel or Quartier (like the Quartiere in Hamburg-Altstadt or HafenCity) and that's something very small and informal in both English and German. --AltSylt (talk) 08:04, 10 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

I strongly agree with AltSylt. Bezirk should be translated as district - with the meaning of City district (in this case Stadtbezirk, not Landkreis) -, and Stadtteile should be translated as boroughs. A quarter is today usually a part of a city without administratively defined borders, and according to the linked article quarters with administratively chosen borders are denoted as boroughs. Stadtviertel or Quartiere like Hochkamp, Dammtor or Klein Borstel, which have no clearly defined borders, should be called quarters (instead of zones, which is simply a wrong and misleading translation, see Category:Zones of Hamburg).--Gerry1214 (talk) 13:55, 4 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
According to the EU's English Style Guide for Translators, Bezirk means borough. Stadtteil does not have an official translation, however, and it seems that the size/signifigance of a Stadtteil varies from place to place. — Preceding unsigned comment added by InFrontOfTheForest (talkcontribs) 00:45, 5 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
